Reduction of Barriers
2008 Voter Protection Program: Removal of Registration and Provisional Ballot Barriers
The Advancement Project uses law, public policy, and strategic communications to help reform inequitable policies that undermine the promise of democracy. This grant supports Advancement’s 2008 Voter Protection Program’s (VPP) efforts in eight states to remove structural barriers in the voter registration process and to ensure that provisional ballots are used and counted properly.
Democracy Program
Founded in 1995, the Brennan Center for Justice is a public interest legal organization, affiliated with New York University's Law School, with programs focused on democracy, poverty, and criminal justice. This grant provides operating support for the Brennan Center's Democracy Program in three interrelated project areas: Voting Rights and Elections, Campaign Finance Reform, and Fair Courts.
"Building a National Redistricting Movement" Conference
The Center works in the areas of campaign finance, communications, and government ethics and represents the public interest in enforcement proceedings involving campaign finance and related media laws. This grant supports a conference addressing redistricting reform, co-sponsored by the Council for Effectiveness in Government and the League of Women Voters.
Making Public Financing Work
The Center uses research, advocacy, information technology, and education to improve the fairness of governmental policies and processes and to help implement effective public policy reforms. This grant supports a research project that will analyze public financing systems in Hawaii, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Wisconsin and make recommendations for strengthening those systems to reflect best practices.
Democracy NC is committed to ensuring equal access and full participation of all voters in the electoral process. This grant provides operating support for its efforts around Election Day Registration, public financing, and lobbying reform.
National Voter Registration Act Implementation Project
Demos is a nonpartisan public policy research and advocacy organization working for an inclusive democracy in America. This grant will support Demos’ project to improve state compliance with the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) at public assistance agencies in ten states.
State Hosted Systems Program
The Overseas Vote Foundation (OVF) helps military and civilian overseas voters participate in federal elections by providing public access to innovative, online voter registration tools and services. This grant supports use of customized software by states to facilitate the registration process for military and civilian overseas voters.
National Voter Registration Act Implementation Project
Project Vote is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that promotes voting in low-income and minority communities. This grant supports Project Vote’s efforts to improve state compliance with the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) at public assistance agencies in eleven states.
